OUR PHILOSOPHY

Being a parent is the most incredible experience in the world, and we want to assist you in enjoying every possible moment. We have kids because we want to, not because we have to, and our goal is to guide you so that not only are your children healthy, but so you can REALLY ENJOY them.

There are so many opinions out there as to how to parent. The world (particularly online) is a whirlwind of information with conflicting (and unsolicited) messages from so many sources on how to raise your children. Our whole mission at Happy and Healthy Pediatrics is to be your “village” in supporting you through the beautiful yet terrifying journey of becoming a parent. We try to accompany you on this path while encouraging you to follow your heart, trust your instincts, and watch your baby’s/child’s cues. To reconnect to the nature part of parenting.

We are one of the few remaining independent pediatric medical practices (and we have NO intentions on changing that).  This allows us to make decisions solely with the best interest of the patient in mind, rather than being constrained to specific networks or institutional protocols. All of us are Board Certified Pediatricians and most of us are also Internationally Board-Certified Lactation Consultants (or currently completing the training to receive certification).  We all stay up to date in standard of care pediatric medicine and we try to practice as naturally as possible, while still using traditional medications when appropriate.  We prioritize psychological well-being, care and prevention of illness, behavioral issues, nutrition, school adjustment, and growth and developmental progress.

Our newborn care is second to none.  Because of our extensive experience and board certifications in lactation medicine, we build in our lactation support directly into your visits and will support you on your journey (no need for referrals to outside lactation consultants).  If breastfeeding is something that you want to do, we have an extremely high success rate.  Again, as your “Village” we teach you how to properly latch your infant and troubleshoot any issues you may be having.  We also, however, believe fed is best, and if breastfeeding is not for you, we will never pressure you or make you feel negatively about your choice.  We want you to follow your heart and we will support any needs that may arise.

We work very hard to cultivate mindfulness in our practice and visits.  We sit and talk to our patients with a sense of presence.  Our hearts are filled with love for our community and positive intentions to care for our families.  We spend time with our families, and we get to know them very well.  You will never feel rushed, and you will always feel heard.  Our goal is for parents to understand not only our recommendations, but also our reasons behind them; for you to feel comfortable with the proposed plan of action. You will never leave our office without ALL your questions and concerns being addressed to the best of our ability.

Let’s face it, going to the pediatrician can be stressful. Every staff member is committed to making your experience a positive one. We stay abreast and implement the latest technology that supports the delivery of quality medicine and expedites your visit. Our receptionists are extremely knowledgeable and work hard to find appointment times that work for our families. Our nurses are extensively trained to make sure blood draws and vaccine administration is as minimally invasive to the children as possible. They use proven distraction techniques and “shot blockers” to lessen the pain of the injections.   Your total patient experience is a top priority.

We strive to be a resource for you, for any parenting issues or concerns that arise.  We have an extensive resource base on our website, and we have excellent relationships with many specialists in the community when a referral is needed. Mental health matters to us as much as physical health.  We care about wellness.  We want our children (and parents) to be happy and healthy.
